Update (June 2026): My original review was 5-stars and posted below. Unfortunately, after reaching out in March 2026 to do my 2025 taxes, I received no reply until following up weeks later. The reply appeared standard, with no context of our previous working relationship, and asked me to book a free, 15-min "get to know you" call. I responded confused and did not get a reply. I went on the website to book an appointment. The earliest was May. When the day came, the appointment was cancelled (by Julian due to illness) and never rescheduled. When I emailed Julian my questions that I had prepared, and my tax documents, I didn't receive a reply. When I responded with an urgent question and deadline, I didn't receive a reply. It wasn't until weeks later when I finally asked "is this even happening?" and voicing my frustration that I received an apologetic reply, stating due to high work volume and illness, things have been delayed. The cost estimates I was given in August 2025 were doubled and although it was confirmed in May 2026 that Julian would be able to do my US taxes as well, this was later noted as too complicated and I would need to find someone else. Given that the deadline for US taxes was days later (June 15) and nothing was done and no extension was filed, I ultimately decided not to work with Julian. I was very disappointed by the 180 degree change the second time around. The lack of response, recognition of our previous work, difference in cost estimates, and inability to complete the full spectrum of work.

Original Review (August 2025): I am a German-American citizen who has lived in America most of my life and just moved to Germany as an adult. I had questions about covering my student loan and credit card debt with my 401K and/or how to transfer my 401K to Germany and the tax implications for all of it. I asked ChatGPT to help me figure out my first steps and Julian Thalmeir was recommended. We were able to chat via phone before making a 30-min appointment (200 Euros, excluding tax). I had never used a tax advisor before, so I was worried about the time and price. However, I was elated that Julian knew the answers to all my questions and was able to give me concrete answers and even advise me on what makes the most sense in my situation. I left feeling 100% certain about my next steps. For the 2025 tax season, I will be making an appointment with him. His motto "peace by expertise" couldn't be more true. I enthusiastically recommend him without reservation.

Nachdem ich fast drei Monate auf einen Termin gewartet hatte, wurde dieser von Julian eine Minute vor dem vereinbarten Termin per Kalendereinladung abgesagt, ohne dass es eine Erklärung gab. Ich habe ihm per E-Mail um eine Terminverschiebung gebeten und warte nun seit über anderthalb Wochen auf eine Antwort. Ein 30-minütiges Treffen mit ihm hätte 250,00 Euro gekostet, und ich bin mir sicher, dass mir diese Gebühr berechnet worden wäre, wenn ich innerhalb einer Minute abgesagt hätte. Mangelnde Kommunikation ist inakzeptabel.

Bearbeiten: Ich möchte dies ergänzen und darauf hinweisen, dass der Anbieter eine Entschuldigungs-E-Mail gesendet und eine kostenlose Sitzung angeboten hat. Diese E-Mail kam jedoch Wochen später und erst, nachdem ich eine negative Bewertung abgegeben hatte (natürlich kann ich nicht sagen, dass er dies ohne die negative Bewertung nicht angeboten hätte, da ich sie bereits geschrieben hatte). Daher werde ich meine Sternebewertung von 1 auf 3 erhöhen, da dies eine nette und professionelle Geste war.
